From Jack with the Curly Tail: A Home for Jack

Episode One

Where are we going now, Big Boy? Where are we going now?” I asked Big Boy excited to begin this New Year.

“Well, Jack my friend, we are going to a party,” Big Boy said. “There’s this little cutie on the west side whose been giving me the eye. She tells me there’s going to be a lot of those good humans and I might just get myself adopted. Get a home.”

“What about me, Big Boy? Will I get adopted? Will I get a home too?” I asked.

“Well there’s only one Big Boy so somebody’s going home empty,” Big Boy said looking at his reflection in a store window and smiling.

“A cute pup like you stands a good chance of getting lucky.”

“OK! Let’s go!” I said and looked at myself in the store window too and licked my paws just like Big Boy.  I looked like me, Jack.

Dear Michelle,
Your book and reading caused such wonderful conversations in classrooms.  To share a few comments:
TODAY'S AUTHOR WAS AWESOME.    THANK YOU
I had comments from my students :
* "she was the first black author I have seen"
*  "she gave me ideas on how to write"
*  I like how she had someone from Africa draw the pictures"
"The book was so simply written with so much to say."
All of the students were focussed and the depth of subject ran through their minds like the Mississippi with it's saturated tributaries!
And your kindness and sincerity disarmed even those 'cool, hardened' fifth graders who are feeling like they own the town, which, as a matter-of-fact, they have earned.
I can't thank you enough for giving two hundred students such a wonderful experience of sharing your book and yourself with us.
Sincerely,

Where would we be without our friends.
